Attentive audience at York College
Dr. Griffith met Diva JC in Miami through their mutual friend, Dr. Carole Boyce-Davies, former Director of the African New World Studies Department at Florida International University. Carole presented Women in Jazz at FIU in the 1990s and encouraged Dr. Griffith to engage the program at York College. On March 28, with the assistance of Dr. Salek and the Women's Studies Dept., Dr. Griffith presented Diva JC and Women in Jazz to the student body of York College, in Jamaica, New York.

One York student in attendance was Rita Lindsay, a schoolmate of Joan's at St. Clement Pope Grammar School. Rita came to see if it was the "same Joan Cartwright" she knew in school. They reunited with a huge hug and Rita took Joan back to St. Clement's to enjoy a show by The Fabulous Rockaway Revue, a group of 60+ seniors who perform nationwide.
